Introduction
This challenge is built on Vonage's Communications APIs — the same technology powering real, everyday products like customer service lines, appointment reminders, and two-factor authentication. Learning to build with them is a genuinely in-demand skill, not just a fun workshop exercise.
The DIALED IN Builder Challenge isn't limited to what you built in the workshop. It's an invitation to keep going — to take the Voice API somewhere only you would think to take it.
Tools and Technologies
-
At the workshop, you'll use:
- Vonage Voice API — call connect/bridging, spoken prompts, and caller ID are pre-wired in the starter template
- XR Blocks + Three.js — for the WebXR experience built during the session, browser-based, no headset required
- GitHub Codespaces — no local installs needed, everything runs in your browser
-
For your Builder Challenge submission:
The Vonage Voice API is the requirement. What you build around it is up to you — you can extend your workshop WebXR project, take the API in a completely different direction, or build something new from scratch. The medium is your call.
Inspiration
Not sure where to go beyond the same-night build? Revisit the four lenses — Connection, Play, Access, and Real-World Use — each one is a different way of asking what it means to be truly "dialed in" as communication keeps changing shape. Pick one, combine a few, or ignore them entirely. They're a starting point, not a ceiling.
